Best Student Oral Presentation Award

Aim

To encourage students to present excellent studies at ISES conferences, which fall within the field of Equitation Science, as defined in the ISES Mission and Aims which can be found here.

Eligibility

The applicant must be a registered tertiary level student or have been awarded a tertiary level qualification during the 12 months before this application.  In order to qualify for this award the student is expected to present their research (as an oral presentation) during an ISES International Equitation Science Conference ensuring that their work is aligned with the ISES research priority goals.  A panel of judges convened at the conference will decide upon the most promising student presentation. Award

Following the judging, the winning student will be presented with their award at the conference. The winning student will receive a certificate and free registration for the ISES International Equitation Science Conference the following year.

Application format and process

During abstract submission to ISES conferences, applicants can opt to participate in the “best student oral presentation”. 

Judging criteria

Student presentations will be judged on criteria relating to the academic content and professional presentation. (See best student oral presentation assessment criteria)

Assessment scoring

Scores are given in a range from 1 to 5:

  1. (poor)
  2. (fair)
  3. (average)
  4. (good)
  5. (excellent)
Assessment areas

Scores are awarded in the following assessment areas:

  • Structure (clear, logical, includes introduction, objectives, methods, results, conclusions)
  • Objectives and methods (do methods match objectives?)
  • Results (are results accurately presented?)
  • Discussion (reply of presenter to questions of public)
  • Conclusion and results (do conclusions match results and title?)
  • Format (usage of images, font size, quantity of text per slide, etc.).
